1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I believe that  things like costumes are massively important whilst trying to make a film as realistic as possible. In my film, I feel that dressed my actors appropriately for their role. The assassin was dressed in a hooded jacket and then changed clothing when the murder was commited.I had in my banker  dressed in very smart clothing, wearing a grey suit, this symbolised how he was an important banker. What made him stand out was the close up on his breifcase and the smart clothing he was wearing compared to the civillians. On the other hand, my other actor, Luke, was dressed in a hooded outfit to give the devious feel about him. Personally, I think that having appropriately dressed actors in a film really makes it look more professional as opposed to having actors dressed in clothing that does not match his part the he plays.

Secondly, the title of my film is one of the most obvious conventions of my film that does not challenge the action/drama genre of my film. 'The Assassin' is the name of my film and the reason why I chose it is because it doesn't really give too much away but it still highlights how the main idea of the film is about stalking and assassination.

Lastly, In allot of ways I feel that my product develops and challenges conventions of an actual media product. I believe that locations affect massively in helping to create a successful film by setting the scene, they should compliment the film and help it flow so the audience don't get confused. I also that my location fits this well. I used a massive royal square with lots of space to set the scene and then gradually moved to some dark alley ways . This was good because it helped me created a busy atmosphere for my actor who was about to get to be assasined and also allowed my stalker to blend in with the crowd.

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In my film i feel the main social group I am targeting is young adult to adult groups because my film will have allot of blood, i am putting this in so that people in this type of age group because result from my survey showed that they are attracted to this type of media. I am also aiming to attract the rich and upper class people because they will relate to my characters as a highly trained assassin and a banker. I also believe that may characters relate to the young adult people categories because there is also allot of action.
My two character walk through a royal square, i think this attracts all types of social groups because in the square i have recorded at, there are all types of different people.

I have also based my film on two things , which include the video game Assassins creed and the film Hit-man these two productions helped me because it allowed me to merge them together and also embed my own ideas. I have used Assassins Creed, but i have modernized it and added Hit-man scenes such as when i have the pigeons flying off, this allowed me to involve people that enjoy thriller and action and upper class social groups.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The media institution i am targeting would be on that would make a physical production film,Because I see my film as being similar to films such as Hit-man I believe that the same kind of media institutions would produce my film. Hit-man is produced by Adrian Askarieh and I think it would be a good production company to use for my film.

With my film I knew it would be very basic and minimalistic because of the expensive costs, therefore I would want to release it to a select amount of audiences such as cinemas to see how well it is received and to see what type of people it attracted, i could also do this through surveys like i have already done. Using a distributor would be very helpful for the release of a low budget film like mine. Coming from an unknown director, the film would need large advertising to make it a success. Having a film distributor would also help to attract larger audience.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is a image showing the type of people i am targeting young adults and upper class, as i have shown in the photo above. I aiming to attract people from the ages of 15-21.

Before I created my media product I asked a group of students at college between the age of 15 - 21 to name what their favourite films are, here are some of the most popular choices:
  • Assassins Creed
  • James bond
  • Scarface
  • Hit-Man
All of these films are Stalker and action related which helped me make a very easy decision to what my target audience would be.

After I had completed my media product, I asked the same people what they thought about my film. Here are some of their responses:
  • "I really want to see what happens after the assassination."
  • "I like the fact that you don't see the assassins face until the end."
  • "I think it is good, but I would like to see more of the killing scene."
I think that the feedback I recieved from my peers was very positive and it confirmed that my decision to target a young age group was deffinately the correct choice.

5.How did you attract/address your audience?

In order to attract my audience, I used youtube annotations which focused on the way in which my film opening linked with other films with the same kind of story line. I did this by using similar music and similar genre conventions. I tried to attract my audience with a dramatic story line which included lots of dialogue and a murder. Having left my film on a cliff hanger I am hoping that it will attract my audience to take time and watch the rest of the film. I also used interesting scenery , which included a large square are and ended down some dark alley way where my intro finishes.

6 .What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

These are the pieces of equipment that we used.

As well as all the different pieces of equipment we used, we also used various programs. these programs allowed us to add sound and add final details to our movies and other tasks we were asked to do. We also used macs to do most of our editing we used apple mac and the MAC OS X operating system, if found this program really easy and fast to pick up and in no time i was coming to grips with all the different software.
I think that the school chose mc because of the range of software and how easy it was to use. over using Microsoft.

We used many different programs for editing which included: Final cut, Sound track, After effects and Youtube and blogger.
Blogger:this was a great site to use because it allowed us to upload all our work to the blog. I used blogger as a way throughout my media program this year. I decided to use blogger over other archiving methods like a scrapbook due to bloggers features which allow you to correct old posts and also embed videos, images and sound. I had never used blogger prior to media studies but i feel it is a great free-to-use website and allowed me to upload with no problems every time. It was also easy to compare blogs with others and find out what was missing and things we had or hadn't done.

Soundtrack Pro: I used sound track pro on the introduction of the film Panic Room. This was great practice for when I came to use the application for my own opening sequence. I found this effect quite hard to use when I first started but as I got used to it I found it very enjoyable to use.  Soundtrack Pro is a great piece of software with a large amount of features which enabled me to add to my media product. Without the availability of Soundtrack pro, I wouldn't have been able to insert the music that I want to overlap my film.

Final cut pro:I also used final cut pro this software allowed me to put my final film together and cut out any unwanted parts. Final Cut was used to capture, edit and export our media product. Final Cut  is a non-destructive editing technique in which if any problems the original footage had.
I also used final cut in producing my mundane task, this allowed me to practice using it for when i did my real movie.

Youtube:we used YouTube so that we could publish all our media . We were able to publish our video for free and we were then able to embed our videos too our blog with screen shots as proof. Before uploading our video onto YouTube, I had never uploaded a video although having a YouTube account. I found YouTube very easy to use and was a great way to publish our film.

After Effects Pro: we used After Effects to produce my production company logo and to add in different titles into my final film such as actors and producers names. as well as the other programs we begun experimenting so that we had the knowledge before using it on our final film After Effects before I started this on my final film. We practiced on a film that had already been done called Mission impossible 3 and learnt all the different techniques in the  final film.
Personally i think it was really easy to use and the easiest to learn so it was quick to use different interesting effects.
